Who are Sonic Rail Services Ltd

Sonic Rail Services was formed in 1997.  The management team have over 40 years experience within the rail industry and we are a provider to major rail projects throughout the UK.  With continuing growth and investment in the UK rail industry, SRS Ltd are ideally positioned to benefit from the experience we have in P. Way Engineering and Electrical Track Equipment (ETE) works.

Services and Capabilities

SRS Ltd provides a variety of services to deliver complex projects to exacting standards to rail clients across the UK.  We provide solutions using our expertise and knowledge in six main areas:

Infrastructure Maintenance

SRS can provide maintenance to all components of  rail infrastructure assests.  We can provide the expertise for inspections, routine maintenance, repairs and component renewal, upgrades, and renewals and Level 4 handback.

We have the knowledge and expertise to:

• Lifting or slewing of the track
• Correction of track gauge
• Maintenance/replacement of fishplates
• Maintenance/replacement of chairs, base plates and fastenings
• Replacement of sleepers or bearers
• Alteration/renewal of longitudinal timbers
• Localized ballast replacement (e.g. for repair of wet spots)
• Cutting and drilling of rails
• Joining rails for form fish-plated joints (insulated and non insulated)
• Welding to form welded joints
• Repair welding of rails, switches and crossings
• Re-profiling rails
• Straightening of welds and rail ends
• Adjusting or changing rails
• Stressing rails
• Inspection of track in connection with:-
  • routine visual examination
  • a reported ‘bump’
  • ultrasonic inspection
  • examination of cast crossings
  • examination of facing switches
  • measurement of side wear and depth of rails
  • hot weather inspections
  • high tides, flooding or exceptionally severe weather
  • excavation of ballast or soil etc under or adjacent to the track
  • imposition or removal of speed restrictions
  • determining whether a line may be opened to traffic after maintenance, alteration or repair work, or after a prolonged period of closure

SRS ETE (Electric Track Equipment) division

ETE Installations/Renewals/Maintenance

We install Positive and Negative D.C cables to Network rail specification and this includes:

• 1. Carry out fishplate/ continuity bonding.
• 2. Transposition bonds (where C&T circuits are transposed with IBJ’s (insulated block joints).
• 3. Cross bonding, wing rail, breather bonding and f bonds (bonding across points).
• 4. Fully install dummy advanced plates with side leads and reinforcing cables.
• 5. Rail lugs of sicame and cembre styles ( sicame involves tapping the conductor rail once the hole has been drilled and cembre is connected with a bushing via the conductor rail and the cable lug is bolted onto that).
• 6. Bonds from the fourth rail to running rail (on London underground).
• 7. Mark 7 Hookswitches, Double jumper units etc (this includes three and four way jumper units), and track isolating switches mounted at the side of the track/ depot. 
• 8. Substation cabling; feeder cables, rectifiers, negative return and interconnecting cables.
• 9. As well as in line jointing on cables which include 240sqmm, 500sqmm, 630sqmm, 800sqmm and 1000sqmm

We have worked for companies such as AMEC, WPU, BBRIS, BBRP and SABCO on ETE renewals
